Short Film Series, "How I Get By"
Everyday people and the hobby that keeps them alive
Short documentary films about everyday people and the hobby that really helps them get through things in life. Starting with a map of NYC, I zoom in on the location and that starts the film, Three videos from the series are included here. "Chess at Wendys" about a community of men who play chess at a Wendys in Flatbush Brooklyn nearly every night to help them unwind. "You Don't Have to Wall Out" is about a boy in the Bronx who likes to do backflips around town and he feels it keeps him out of trouble. The title is something that he says in the film, essentially if you keep energetic and busy, you don't have to wall out and get angry. And "It's Like a Little Universe" is about a model train layout in a basement in Staten Island. The retiree that keeps it going has alot of memories hidden in the miniature buildings and trees.
